Taiho Shin is a co-founder of MAEZM, a design studio working with constant experiments blurring boundaries of what we perceive, and had been working for Hyundai Card Design Lab as a senior designer at the branding department. His two different working experiences help him to believe that the experiment-driven projects can contribute to shaping our future and this should be based upon understanding the system that we are in.
His belief in the capacities of the experiment-driven approach leads to many innovative outcomes, ranging from ‘Hanji’, a paper-based furniture project, to ‘My Taxi’, a service design project for public transportation. These are recognised with several prominent awards, such as iF, reddot, blueprint awards, and so on.
Taiho holds MA from Design Products at (RCA) Royal College of Art, a Bachelor degree in Spatial Design from Kookmin University in Korea. He worked for Hyundai Card Design Lab, a financial company of the Hyundai Group, as a senior designer. In 2011, he was selected by the Korean Ministry of Culture as 'Next Generation Design Leader' and lectured at Kaywon School of Art during the year 2010 and 2011. His works have been recognised with publications and exhibitions including 100% Design London (UK), Biennale Internationale Design (France), ICFF New York (USA), 100% Design Tokyo (Japan), and so on.
